Fetterman driving at ‘high rate of speed’ ahead of crash: Police

According to a Maryland State Police report, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) was driving at a “high rate of speed” before being involved in a car crash in Maryland over the weekend.

According to the report, obtained by The Hill, a witness saw Fetterman’s vehicle “traveling at a high rate of speed, well above the posted speed limit,” as it passed her Sunday morning. Fetterman, who was driving a Chevrolet Traverse, crashed into a Chevrolet Impala “shortly after” passing the witness, according to the report.

The speed limit on the highway is 70 mph, and both vehicles involved in the accident were towed from the scene. Fetterman, his wife and the driver of the other vehicle were all taken to the hospital after the accident, the police report said.

The letter also states that Fetterman is “responsible” for the incident.

Fetterman’s office said he and his wife, Gisele, were “in good spirits” after being involved in a car accident Sunday morning. The couple were examined at a local hospital, where Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder and released that afternoon, his office said.

Fetterman thanked people for their well wishes. In Video It was posted on social media platform X earlier this week.

“Not the best way to spend our 16th wedding anniversary, but we are doing well and happy to be back home in Braddock with our family,” he wrote.

“The investigation into the accident remains ongoing,” Maryland State Police said in a statement earlier this week, noting that no tickets had been issued.

The Hill has reached out to Fetterman’s office about the police report.

Miranda Nazzaro contributed reporting.
