Fetterman’s driving record includes speeding, alleged texts, FaceTime calls: reports

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) was reportedly seen driving at a “high rate of speed” on Interstate 70 in Maryland on Sunday night before rear-ending another vehicle, but speeding and distracted driving are behaviors the senator has exhibited while driving in the past.

Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, were involved in a car accident early Sunday morning on westbound Interstate 70 in Maryland, near Interstate 68 between Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined a Chevrolet Traverse was traveling “well in excess of the posted speed limit” and rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala that morning.

Fetterman and his wife were riding in the Traverse, but the police report said Fetterman was responsible for the accident.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and Fetterman, Giselle and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment with minor injuries, police said.

The 54-year-old senator posted a video on X Channel with his wife on Monday night, thanking everyone for their well wishes and revealing that they were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary at the time the accident occurred.

In the video, Gisele said it was the worst anniversary ever as Fetterman held bags of frozen peas and Tylenol.

Fetterman was involved in a car accident in Maryland that injured himself, his wife and another driver, but Fetterman was held responsible.

Sunday’s accident was the latest example of Fetterman’s dangerous driving.

Earlier this year, he was charged in Pennsylvania after being found driving 34 miles per hour over the speed limit, to which he pleaded guilty.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that Fetterman had received another speeding ticket in 2016, this time for driving at least 24 miles per hour over the speed limit.

He was ordered to take a driving improvement course after pleading guilty to speeding earlier this year, a person familiar with the outcome and requesting anonymity told the paper.

Three people familiar with Fetterman’s staff’s decision-making also spoke to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity and alleged that the senator was talking and texting on FaceTime while driving.

Aides reportedly claimed his behavior raised concerns among staff.

Fetterman has a history of responding to text messages while driving, so he told the paper not to send texts while driving.

A spokesman for Fetterman told The Washington Post that the stories about the congressman’s alleged driving were “hearsay and inaccurate” but declined to provide details.
