All three top public relations staff members in Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman’s office have moved to other left-leaning offices within a month.
The resignation comes as the Pennsylvania Democratic Party has made headlines for its stance on Israel and immigration and distanced itself from fellow Democrats.
Joe Calvello previously served as communications director for both Fetterman’s Senate office and 2022 campaign. The city of Chicago announced in a statement earlier this month that Calvello would join Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office as chief strategy officer.
Fetterman goes separate ways, breaks with Senate Democrats
“It is an absolute honor and privilege to come to Chicago and serve the people of this great city,” Calvello said in a released statement.
Fetterman’s deputy communications director, Nicholas Gabio, revealed on Friday’s X that he plans to join the Working Families Party as director of mid-Atlantic communications.

Mr. Gavio also worked on Mr. Fetterman’s 2022 campaign and in the office of state Sen. Bernie Sander.
The Working Families Party is a small progressive party whose platform includes raising the minimum wage, increasing taxes on the wealthy, and reforming the environment and education. The party has previously had ties to prominent Democratic politicians, including “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.).

Fetterman’s press secretary and digital aide, Emma Mustaction, also told X earlier this month that she would be joining Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey’s campaign office as a press secretary. Mastion also worked on Fetterman’s 2022 Senate campaign.

Fetterman has emerged as one of Israel’s staunchest allies in the Senate in the wake of the October 7 massacre, distancing himself from other Democrats in Congress.
Back in October, shortly after the massacre, Mr. Calvello posted to X a screenshot of an office-wide email outlining the office’s policy on sharing social media posts that were inconsistent with Mr. Fetterman’s position.

“However, if you wish to sign on to something completely anonymous, such as never identifying yourself as a Fetterman staffer, that is limited to what you choose,” he wrote in an Oct. 20 email. was written. “The difference here is that you can’t use status As a current staff member at Fetterman Make any public statement that undermines John’s position or contradicts John’s views. ”
The email went on to emphasize the need for the office to “work together as a team” in the wake of the outbreak of war between Israel and Gaza.

Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper in January, Fetterman responded to criticism of his pro-Israel stance, saying, “I understand why deciding to side with Israel in this situation would be controversial for anyone.” I can’t.”
