Fever Tops Mystics in Competitive Matchup

INDIANAPOLIS – Kelsey Mitchell was the standout star for the Indiana Fever, scoring 23 points, while Lexie Hull contributed all of her 14 points in the second half, leading the Fever to an 85-76 victory against the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night. This win came amidst the team’s recent struggles, marking their third consecutive loss.

Notably absent from the lineup was Caitlyn Clark, who was sidelined due to tension in her left quad. Additionally, veteran guard Sophie Cunningham had to sit out early in Friday’s game against Connecticut, which added to the team’s challenges.

The Fever made a strong push in the third quarter, scoring 31 points and establishing a solid 69-55 lead after accumulating 38 overall in the first half. Ahri MacDonald, who made her debut for Indiana, helped the team register their fifth three-pointer with just 2:29 left in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Washington managed to score only 12 points, cutting the Fever’s lead to 69-67 with a layup from Britney Sykes. However, Indiana quickly responded with a seven-point run to regain control. Hal’s open layup extended their lead to 78-73, and she played a crucial role in forcing a jump ball shortly after.

When the Fever won the jump ball, Mitchell scored an important layup, increasing Indiana’s lead to eight with just 1:28 remaining in the game.

Alongside Mitchell’s performance, Aliya Boston added 10 points for Indiana, now standing at 3-4 for the season.

For the Mystics, Kiki Iriafen and Sykes each scored 20 points, while rookie Sonia Citron, who averages 14.3 points per game, contributed 13. Shakira Austin rounded out the scoring with 10 points.

Interestingly, the Fever excelled from beyond the arc, hitting a season-high 11 three-pointers, contrasting with the Mystics, who struggled from long range.
