Fever-Mercury game descends into chaos with pushing, shoving after hard screen

There was a fierce battle between the Indiana Fever and the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night.

Midway through the third quarter of Indiana’s 98-89 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell and the Mercury’s Natasha Cloud collided after a hard screen by NaLyssa Smith, and things got ugly from there.

Mitchell and Cloud appeared to collide near the 3-point line and Mitchell wasn’t happy with the play.

Mitchell nearly fell to the floor, but then turned around and pushed Cloud.

The two faced each other and were on the verge of a fistfight, but players from both teams stepped in to intervene.

Mitchell and Cloud exchanged words from across the court while teammates held them back.

Both players were called for technical fouls.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever were competing for the first time since July 17th after a month-long hiatus for the Paris Olympics.

Clark finished with a double-double, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Mitchell contributed to the win, adding 28 points.
