Aliyah Boston Signs Historic Contract Extension with Indiana Fever
Indiana Fever’s standout center Aliyah Boston has made a significant mark in WNBA history with a groundbreaking contract extension. On Friday, the Fever revealed that Boston has signed a four-year deal worth $6.3 million, marking the largest contract in the league’s history.
This agreement is also notable for being the first to feature an Exceptional Performance in Initial Contract (EPIC) clause. This provision allows teams to extend contracts for players who excel during their rookie years.
To qualify for this clause, players need to be named to the All-WNBA first or second team or recognized as league MVP within their first three seasons. Boston achieved a spot on the All-WNBA second team last year, letting her take full advantage of this opportunity.
“I feel incredibly blessed and thankful for this chance to continue my journey with the Fever. God is good!” Boston expressed in her statement. “I’m really looking forward to the future for both myself and our team. I can’t wait to build upon everything we’ve achieved so far.”
Boston has become a foundational player for the Fever, joining forces with another superstar, Caitlin Clark. The Fever selected Boston as the first overall pick from South Carolina in the 2023 WNBA Draft, and her impact was immediate.
She claimed the Rookie of the Year title in her debut season and was also named an All-Star. In her inaugural year, she participated in 40 games, posting averages of 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Boston maintained impressive performance levels during her second season, earning another All-Star nod. In her third season, she achieved a career-high average of 15 points across 44 games, finishing sixth in WNBA MVP voting.
Currently, Boston ranks second in franchise history with 41 career double-doubles, including a franchise-best 17 from the previous season.
“We’re thrilled to honor her with this new contract and make history while securing her as a key player for the Fever moving forward,” commented Amber Cox, the Fever’s COO and general manager. “While she’s already an All-WNBA player, Aliyah has only begun to tap into her true potential.”
