While nearly every house in the neighborhood was reduced to ashes, a few lucky Malibu homes that somehow escaped the Palisades fire are still standing.
Amidst the scorched ruins of million-dollar luxury mansions along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, only a select few survived after hell tore through the upscale city and are still under control. Aerial photos show it is disabled and continues to burn.
The huge three-story house overlooking the Pacific Ocean appeared to have escaped serious damage from the wildfires, even though piles of rubble that once housed it were still smoldering to the north and south.
This $8 million white mansion was built in 2000 and is owned by Waste Management CEO David Steiner. According to the Daily Mail.
Images show that several other selected structures were still intact and stood out among the wreckage.
The fire destroyed most of the structures along Malibu's Big Rock Beach. The sea, once blocked by the many houses lining the scenic road, is now clearly visible.
The Palisades Fire, first reported Tuesday morning in the Topanga State Park area of Los Angeles, has exploded to about 20,000 acres (31 square miles) in West Los Angeles and Malibu's Pacific Palisades.
By Friday morning, crews had only been able to contain 8 percent of the fire, but According to Cal Fire.
The fire destroyed the homes of several celebrities, including Anthony Hopkins, Paris Hilton, and Adrien Brody.
There are four other wildfires burning in Los Angeles County. At least 10 people died in the fire, authorities said.
