Fewer Americans plan to donate to political campaigns: Survey

Fewer Americans plan to donate to political campaigns this year compared to 2020, according to a new survey. LendingTree Research.

According to the survey, 26% of Americans said they plan to donate to political campaigns this year, compared to 36% who said they plan to donate to political campaigns in 2020.

As the election heats up, presidential campaigns from both major parties are vying for public donations. Former President Trump’s campaign outraised President Biden’s campaign last month, raising $76 million in April compared to Biden’s $51 million.

In the LendingTree survey, 66% of American adults said they have never donated to a political campaign before, along with 16% who said they had donated to a political campaign in the past year, and 17% who said they had donated to a political campaign before but not in the past year.

The survey’s decline in enthusiasm for political donations seems consistent with a general lack of enthusiasm for a Biden-Trump rematch revealed in a recent Monmouth University poll, which found that only 39% of voters expressed at least some enthusiasm for a rematch between the two presidents, and 60% said they had little or no enthusiasm for such a match.

The LendingTree survey was conducted by QuestionPro from April 15-17 and included 2,001 respondents.
