Fiancé of NJ influencer comments after passport taken in Zanzibar

Fiancé of NJ influencer questioned and passport revoked following her death

The fiancé of a well-known New Jersey social media influencer has spoken out after officials confiscated her passport during an inquiry into her apparent suicide while she was vacationing off the coast of Africa last month.

Ashley Robinson, also recognized as Ashley Jenna, tragically passed away during a trip to Zanzibar for her 31st birthday, shortly after getting engaged to Joe McCann, as her family reported.

McCann, whose passport was initially taken by Zanzibar authorities amid the investigation surrounding Robinson’s death, has now shared his thoughts in a lengthy social media post.

“There are no words to express the devastation I feel after losing my best friend and fiancée, Ashley Jenna Robinson,” McCann described. “As a father, my heart deeply aches for Ashley’s parents, Yolanda and Harry Robinson. Her death is a profound tragedy.”

He reflected on Ashley’s creativity as an influencer and her love for music and gatherings. “While many fans knew her through her vibrant online presence, I loved Ashley for being compassionate, kind, and generous,” he said. “She was always caring for those close to her, and I am forever thankful for her.”

McCann signed off with a heartfelt tribute to Robinson. “Ashley was a radiant light in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. The void left by her absence is unfillable and incomprehensible,” he mentioned. “We can only strive to continue her legacy of helping others and to embody her qualities.”

His message coincided with the day of Robinson’s burial in New Jersey. Interestingly, reports indicated that McCann was not invited to her funeral.

Local authorities have classified Robinson’s death as a suicide after she was found in an attempt to hang herself in her hotel room on April 9. She was subsequently taken to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Tanzanian police mentioned that her death occurred due to a misunderstanding between her and McCann, leading them to separate the couple for safety reasons. Following her death, authorities noted that Robinson’s passport was suspended, without revealing specific details about the ongoing investigation.

Her family has openly contested the ruling of suicide, asserting that Ashley was a joyful person excited about her birthday trip, which included a marriage proposal. They claimed McCann waited several hours to inform them about her hospitalization and death.

Robinson’s belongings, including her engagement ring, remain with authorities amid the investigation, according to her father, who believes they’re being held as part of that process.

Despite the tragedy, her family has yet to receive any communication from McCann after Ashley’s passing, which they find quite unsettling. They expressed their grief and the unanswered questions surrounding her death, emphasizing an active investigation into the situation.

Ashley had an impressive following of 145,000 on Instagram, where she frequently shared lifestyle content. Details about McCann’s current passport status and whether he has returned to the U.S. are unclear, and inquiries have been directed to his attorney, the Zanzibar police, and the U.S. State Department.
