The fiancé of a well-known social media influencer from New Jersey is under scrutiny after her tragic death during what was supposed to be a joyful vacation in Zanzibar, Africa. Ashley Robinson, who was celebrated for her online presence as Ashley Jenna, died while celebrating her 31st birthday. This came just days after her engagement to Joe McCann, with her family describing the situation as a “suspicious death.”
On April 9, local reports indicated that Robinson had attempted to take her own life in her hotel room. However, she later died in a hospital from the injuries sustained in that incident. Tanzanian authorities clarified that the situation arose from a “misunderstanding” between Robinson and McCann. Following the incident, hotel staff felt it was necessary to relocate McCann for safety reasons, separating the newly engaged couple.
As of Tuesday, Tanzanian police stated that McCann is still being questioned and that his passport has been suspended for the time being. It’s worth noting that he has been regarded as a witness in the case, and reports suggest he has not been accused of any crime.
In the wake of Robinson’s death, her family is contesting the conclusion that it was a suicide. They express doubt, stating they believe she would not take her own life. They described her as a vibrant, joyful person eager for her birthday trip, which had turned into a surprise engagement.
After being notified 11 hours post-hospital admission that Robinson was stable, her family received the devastating news of her passing. Since then, they have reportedly not heard from McCann, which they find “very strange.” The parents openly grieve, stating that the combination of unanswered questions and the distance from home compounds their suffering.
Robinson, prior to her death, was a notable figure on social media with a following of 145,000 on Instagram, where she would often share lifestyle updates and images, including moments spent with McCann. One of her recent posts captured a delightful moment of him feeding a giraffe during their holiday in Zanzibar.
Attempts to reach McCann for comments have been made, but it’s still unclear if he has secured legal representation.
