Romola Garai was nominated twice in the same category at this year's Olivier Awards, with the long-standing performance and the Giants creating a list of the best supporting actresses. These two plays each won five nominations, but the musical fiddler revival on the roof of the Regent Park Open Air Theater leads Olivier Race with a total of 13 nominations. That tally equals the record set by the musical Hamilton in 2018 for Olivier's most nominated show.
Garai, who has never been nominated for Olivier before, received two nods at once when the nominations were announced on Tuesday. She plays a Jewish-American publishing executive in the giant Mark Rosenblatt, who explores the anti-Semitism of author Roald Dahl, and has also acquired Best New Play and Best Director (Nicolas Heitner). John Lithgow, who starred as Dahl, was nominated for Best Actor, while Elliot Raybay runs for the best supporting actor. The Giant ran at Royal Court last year and will move to West End next month.
Based on the memoirs of longtime Nobel Prize winner Annie Elnau, Garai shares a central role with four other actors (including Gina McKee, who also received actress nominations, including Gina McKee). The year has also been nominated for Best Director (Eline Arbo), Best Sound Design (Thijs Van Vuure), and Best New Play (in English by Stephanie Bain). It was performed at the Almeida Theatre in 2017 and is currently being held at the Harold Pinter Theatre. It was the final week of production Garai, and she will be handed over to Tuppence Middleton.

In the theatrical acting category, Indira Varma and Leslie Manville are nominated for best actresses in Jocasta, the same role, in different stagings of Oedipus. Manville co-stars Mark Strong and director Robert Icke have also been nominated for the Wyndham Theater version, which was nominated for Best Revival. Varma currently stars in an old Vic production for Oedipus, featuring nominations for Best Theatre choreographer (Hofesh Shechter, co-directed and composed the show) and sound design (Christopher Shutt).
Another candidate for the best actresses is Heather Aggypon (Shifter), Rosie Sheehee (Witchcraft) and Meera Sial (Tupperware of Ashes). Strong for Lithgow's competition and best actor are Billy Cradoup (Harry Clark), Paapa Esiedu (Death of England: Delroy) and Adrian Brody, who made their West End debuts with 13 horrors. He is now able to join a selection group of actors who have won Oscars and Olivier.
Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 have six nominations (actors Jamie Muscat, Chumisa Dawnford May, Maimuna Memon, etc.). (Includes actor Simon Ripkin and choreographer Matthew Bourne). Imelda Staunton will receive his 14th Olivier nomination this year. With the Palladium. Founded in 1976, the Olivier Awards are Society London Theatre. The winners are selected by a team of industry figures, stage celebrities and theatre-loving masses.
