Sandro Castro, Fidel Castro’s grandson, unveiled a “comedy sketch” over the weekend featuring a man impersonating Donald Trump, who tells Castro he’s been selected to negotiate a deal to “buy Cuba.”
Sandro, one of several grandkids of the late dictator, has been active on social media, notably on Instagram. His posts often showcase a lavish lifestyle, starkly contrasting with the poverty and hunger faced by many Cubans under his family’s regime for nearly seven decades. Much of his content promotes “Crystal Beer,” a once-renowned Cuban brew, which, due to years of mismanagement, has become one of the least appreciated beers globally.
In recent weeks, Castro has voiced clear criticisms regarding the Cuban regime and the dire state of affairs in the country, which has worsened under communism. Earlier in February, he shared a sketch expressing his desire for “Cuba Libre” rather than Cristal beer.
On Saturday, he presented rompiendo (“Breaking News”), likely the first episode of a series titled “Trump Wants to Buy Cuba.” This video dropped just a day after Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuba’s “president,” confirmed that discussions were underway between the ruling communists and Trump’s administration. This revelation follows weeks of intense speculation and seems to have bolstered ongoing anti-communist protests across the island.
The sketch kicks off with an anonymous actor portraying Trump arriving at Castro’s residence with two “bodyguards.” A separate outlet, cyber cuba, identified the actor as Roberto Ferrante, an Italian music producer linked to the Cuban communist establishment.
Attempting to mimic an American accent, the Trump impersonator remarks, “We’ve been calling everyone here and no one’s answering. The phone’s always busy. What’s the deal?”
“We’re fortunate here; it’s a mess,” yawned Castro replied. “The signal is awful. We don’t have phone lines anymore,” he told “Trump.”
The impersonator mentions Castro’s resemblance to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to which Castro responds with a playful, “marquito my cousin,” and queries whether the impersonator left Rubio behind. The impersonator replies, “He’s very busy.” Interestingly, Rubio is 21 years older than Sandro Castro.
After Castro’s invitation, the Trump impersonator states, “I want to make a deal with you.” He goes on to explain, “You and I are showmen, let’s do business. I want to buy Cuba,” startling Castro, who questions, “Buy what? This is strange, relax.”
“I’m envisioning a millionaire’s resort there,” the Trump impersonator continues, to which Castro replies, “Duh, calm down. I’ve got a rich friend, Ferrante, who’s just as wealthy as you.” Ferrante, as Trump, downplays Castro’s claims, implying that he doesn’t belong among the world’s elite.
“All right, let’s go. But this place is normal. Where’s your mansion? Where are your fancy cars?” Ferrante questions, indirectly referencing a past video in which Castro flaunted his luxury Mercedes-Benz around Cuba.
“What are you saying? There’s no Mercedes. I have something you’ve probably never seen—a tricycle,” Castro responds cheekily.
The video concludes with Castro and “Trump” riding a Chinese-made electric tricycle, with Castro humorously calling it “the beast of the Cuban highways.” He drives through a Cuban road, ending with a prompt, “To be continued.”
cyber cuba reported sightings of Castro and Ferrante dressed as Trump in Havana prior to this video’s release, with officials having shared images from the shoot.
