FIFA President Gianni Infantino Joins Peace Ceremony in Egypt

On Monday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino made an appearance at the “Peace 2025” event in Egypt. President Trump, speaking at a Middle East peace ceremony in Sharm El Sheikh, remarked, “We have Gianni. We’re going to the World Cup, I can tell you that.”

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to include 48 teams and 104 matches across 16 cities in North America, including places like Los Angeles, Seattle, Mexico City, Toronto, and Atlanta. Earlier in August, President Trump shared that the draw for the 2028 World Cup would take place at the Kennedy Center in December.

In March, President Trump established the 2026 World Cup Task Force through an executive order, promoting the event as a means to “showcase our national pride and hospitality while fostering economic growth and tourism through sports.”

Infantino expressed his thoughts on Instagram following the summit, stating, “I attended a very important peace summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, co-chaired by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, focused on ushering in a new era of regional security and stability.” He noted that he was invited by Trump to attend.

He also highlighted the significance of world leaders and UN delegations attending the event, emphasizing the collective aspiration for peace. Infantino expressed gratitude towards those supporting such efforts, specifically thanking Trump for the invitation.

Last week, Infantino urged that Trump’s Gaza peace plan deserves consideration while acknowledging concerns over potential protests overshadowing Israel’s World Cup qualifier against Italy. Reports suggest heightened security measures for the game scheduled on Tuesday.

In recent demonstrations, pro-Palestinian activists approached the Italian soccer team’s training center, calling for the cancellation of the qualifier amidst the ongoing Gaza conflict. Reports indicated that around 1,000 protesters gathered in Oslo over Norway’s significant victory against Israel, demonstrating against the war.

In other news, FIFA has set up an office in New York’s Trump Tower, and Trump mentioned in August that Russian President Vladimir Putin might attend the 2026 World Cup.
