The Philippine House of Representatives also voted to award Yulo 3 million Philippine pesos (about $51,900) for his gold medal, multiple Philippine media outlets reported.
Yulo’s victory was not only the Philippines’ first medal in artistic gymnastics, but also the first Olympic gold medal for a Filipino man. It was the second gold medal for the Philippines, after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the women’s 55 kg in Tokyo.
