He enjoyed his last meal immensely.
A South Carolina inmate who died by lethal injection on Friday ate a hearty multi-course meal before the state's first execution in 13 years.
Freddie Owens, 46, killed Greenville convenience store clerk Eileen Graves after he failed to open the safe during a botched robbery in 1997. During his trial, he was convicted of murdering a county jail inmate and stabbing, burning, strangling and stomping Christopher Lee, for which he was sentenced to death.
The Department of Corrections confirmed to The Post on Saturday that his final meal was served at lunchtime and included two cheeseburgers, french fries, a well-done rib-eye steak, six chicken wings, two strawberry sodas and a slice of apple pie.
After failed attempts to delay his execution, Owens was executed by lethal injection on Friday evening. He reportedly only said “goodbye” to his lawyers while strapped to a gurney.
Medical professionals pronounced him dead about 10 minutes later, at 6:55 p.m.
This was the state's first execution in 13 years due to a shortage of drugs for lethal injection.
