Finneas O’Connell Opposes ICE Amid Protests in Los Angeles
Finneas, the brother of pop star Billie Eilish, took a stand against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Instagram over the weekend, coinciding with escalating protests in Los Angeles. Early Sunday, he posted a message that seemed to express his frustration with ICE operations, calling for the National Guard to defy the president’s directives. He claimed to have experienced emotional moments during what he described as a “very peaceful protest” in downtown LA.
Protests against ICE turned violent over the weekend, aiming to confront federal immigration enforcement. Reports indicated that some demonstrators threw eggs and shouted warnings about impending raids. Video footage captured the tension between law enforcement and activists, showcasing a line of police facing protesters who were obstructing roadways and throwing objects at police vehicles. At one point, a car in the intersection was seen ablaze.
According to reports, over 40 arrests occurred during these confrontations, a move that drew ire from city officials and immigration advocacy groups. Critics argue that the actions taken allowed ICE to proceed unchecked, especially as the president sent 2,000 National Guard troops to the area. This decision has been characterized by Democrats as an inappropriate escalation of force.
“The federal government is deploying troops not due to a lack of police presence, but, I believe, for performative reasons,” one local leader commented, highlighting the contentious nature of the ongoing situation.
