Monterey County sent out an emergency alert system Thursday night warning that the North County Fire Department was responding to a fire at the Moss Landing Power Plant in Central California and that evacuation orders were in place for some areas.

Monterey County officials said the size of the fire is unknown at this time, but authorities have closed Highway 1 and warned residents in the Moss Landing area behind the plant to lock down their homes.
