Coweta County, Georgia, Fire Chief Bart Cauthen came to the aid of a motorist who collided with a deer and was shot dead at the scene Sunday.
The incident occurred in Alabama around 5 p.m.
ABC News reported Law enforcement was dispatched to the scene and upon arrival found three people shot to death. Kosen was dead when police arrived, and the other two were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police believe a shootout occurred during which Mr. Causen was killed. ABC News cited the following information from law enforcement:
Initial investigation indicates that Officer Cosen was attempting to assist a person who had struck a deer while driving on County Road 267, but another person who lived in the area (William Randall Franklin) approached Officer Cosen. He fired at the person who had run over the deer. All were injured during the gunfight. Chief Kosen succumbed to his injuries before officers arrived on the scene.

WRBL noticed The driver, of whom Causen was assisting, was armed when Franklin fired and was able to return fire, wounding Franklin.
Franklin will be charged with murder once he recovers from his injuries.
