Fire erupts in downtown LA, with 100 firefighters responding

In the early hours of Sunday, over 100 firefighters responded to a significant blaze in downtown Los Angeles.

Emergency services, along with the Los Angeles Police Department, were alerted around 4:20 a.m. to the fire located in the 1200 block of South Hope Street, as reported by local authorities.

The flames erupted in a two-story commercial structure with a mezzanine, leading to a mandatory evacuation of all personnel inside.

Around 124 police officers were deployed to assist, with the LAPD managing traffic in the area.

At least two nearby high-rise residential buildings were also evacuated due to the threat of flames and smoke.

Fire crews managed to bring the fire under control by 6 a.m., with no injuries reported at that time.

“There’s heavy fire coming from the roof and substantial smoke being released,” firefighters noted, indicating that the situation had shifted from an offensive to a defensive strategy.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
