Firefighter’s Widow Continues To Seek Answers a Year After Trump Rally Shooting

Details Emerge from Trump’s Assassination Attempt

The widow of a firefighter who lost his life on July 13, 2024, expressed the need for clarity regarding President Donald Trump’s assassination attempt in an interview on Wednesday.

During a campaign rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the ear. While he survived with only minor injuries, former volunteer fire chief Cory Comperatore was killed. His widow, Helen, described the rally attendees as “sitting ducks.”

“We were all vulnerable that day,” Helen told “American Report.” “Our blood is their responsibility. I’m furious. I’ve lost my soulmate.”

The shooter, identified as Thomas Crooks, was reportedly noticed by a rally attendee who pointed him out to law enforcement just minutes before the incident. The Secret Service, which was present, allegedly had intelligence suggesting Crooks might pose a threat nearly an hour before the shooting.

“Why weren’t they paying attention?” Helen questioned. “Did they really think the area was secure?”

In addition to acknowledging security lapses at the event, the Secret Service subsequently faced criticism for their response to the assassination attempt. Kimberly Cittle, the Secret Service director at the time, resigned on July 23 after public testimony ahead of the House Oversight Committee.

During the interview, Fox News reporter Alexis McAdams queried Helen on whether she thought Crooks acted independently.

“I truly believe he could,” Helen responded. “People, especially young ones, can do terrible things when they’re not mentally stable.”

Helen expressed her desire to consult with the Secret Service about the situation.

“Why did this happen in Butler? Why was there such a failure?” she asked. “I want to have a conversation with them. I deserve that. They need to hear me.”

Authorities reported that Crooks researched events related to November 22, 1963, and reportedly spoke to himself, though the motivation behind his actions remains unclear.
