Firm Connected to Soros Collaborates with Democrats to Sue Trump Regarding Detention Centers

A group of House Democrats, represented by law firms connected to the Public Social Foundation of Alex and George Soros, has initiated a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is accused of obstructing congressional oversight of the Immigration Detention Center.

Led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the Democrats contend that the DHS is limiting access to detention centers that house undocumented immigrants and is preventing them from gathering information about those detainees.

Raskin asserts that some of the claims in the lawsuit indicate that congressional members are unable to verify allegations that DHS is infringing on the “fundamental rights” of undocumented immigrants.

“The Trump administration is systematically infringing on our legal rights as members of Congress to monitor DHS facilities,” Raskin stated.

This parliamentary hindrance is intentionally designed to obstruct our constitutional duty to oversee the immigration system and prevent exposure of inhumane treatment and violations of the fundamental rights of detainees. President Trump and Secretary Noem seem to believe that silencing Congress can shield them from scrutiny regarding unlawful immigration enforcement actions. However, these misguided attempts to sideline us, while violating federal law, only strengthen our determination to seek information on behalf of the American public. We will persist in demanding the transparency and access guaranteed by law. [Emphasis added]

Raskin is joined in the lawsuit by Representatives Joe Neguse (D-CO), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Benny Thompson (D-MS), Robert Garcia (D-CA), Lou Correa (D-CA), Jason Crow (D-CO), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Dan Goldman (D-NY), and Jimmy Gomez (D-CA).

The Democrats are represented by attorneys from organizations dedicated to advancing democratic principles and American oversight.

Reports suggest that several left-leaning organizations, including the American Center for Progress, receive substantial funding from Soros’ Open Society Foundation annually.

Many recent lawsuits against the Trump administration have emerged from these democratic initiatives, including efforts to limit the ability of federal immigration agents to arrest undocumented immigrants in court and attempts to halt the use of laws that categorize undocumented immigrants as enemies of the state.

The case is Joe Neguse et al. v. US Immigration Customs Enforcement, etc. no. 1:25-CV-02463 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
