First 2024 General Election Ballots Are in the Mail

The first general election ballots for the 2024 presidential election are being sent out, with Alabama officials starting mailing them to absentee voters on Wednesday, less than two months before the Nov. 5 race for the White House.

AP Reports North Carolina was scheduled to begin sending out absentee ballots last Friday, but that was delayed after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. won a lawsuit seeking to have his name removed from the ballot.

He is filing similar challenges in other presidential battleground states after withdrawing his candidacy and endorsing Republican candidate Donald Trump, Breitbart News reported.

While the voting took place in relatively quiet states that aren't political battlegrounds, The Associated Press said it was a sign of how quickly Election Day is approaching following this summer's party conventions and Tuesday's first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and President Trump.

“We're prepared,” said Sharon Long, deputy clerk with the Jefferson County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.

Meanwhile, the first in-person voting for the fall elections will begin in several states next week.

Justin Robach, the Ottawa County Clerk in Michigan, who was attending a meeting of election staff in Detroit this week, told The Associated Press that his office will be ready when voting begins in the state.

“At this point in the election cycle, we feel like it's 'game on.' We're ready and prepared to do this,” he said. “We've done our best to educate voters and communicate with them so they feel confident in the process.”
