On Saturday, NBC premiered the first four minutes of “St. Dennis Medical,” a fairly dark new comedy from the hilarious team behind such hits as “The Office,” “Superstore” and “American Auto.”
first trailer The trailer for “St. Dennis Medical” was posted to YouTube on Wednesday, more than two months before its scheduled Nov. 12 release. With such a lengthy marketing campaign, and judging by the number of times the video has appeared on my phone, the show could be another in America’s favorite single-camera comedies, joining the likes of those shows and “Parks and Recreation.”
Based on the first four minutes, this could be one of the most entertaining new shows to air this fall.
In the trailer openingWe’re introduced to nurses Alex (Allison Tolman), Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey from “Reno 9/11”), Ron (David Alan Grier) and Serena (Kahyun Kim). (RELATED: The Sandman Returns in Upcoming Special ‘Adam Sandler: Love You’)
You may also recognize Mekki Reaper from the hit series Jury Duty as Noah. Also, one of my favorite actors, Kariko Kauahi, plays Val, and according to the description, Josh Lawson plays Bruce.

“This mockumentary-style comedy follows the staff at an underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital.” NBC said The show’s characters, “like real-life healthcare workers, go to work every day balancing their innate desire to do their best to help people with their innate desire not to lose their own sanity.” (Related: The new “SNL” movie trailer is out, and it’s not what we expected.)
Despite the extremely high risks (people’s lives), NBC is promising “lots of laughs” and having seen just a small snippet, I’m inclined to believe NBC.
