Melania Trump has truly poured her heart into this year’s White House Christmas decorations. The chosen theme, “Home is Where the Heart Is,” reflects values like generosity, patriotism, and gratitude, aiming to resonate with Americans.
This year, the White House is adorned with an impressive array of decorations—over 10,000 blue butterflies, 25,000 feet of ribbon, 2,000 light strands, 2,800 gold stars, 700 feet of garland, 120 pounds of gingerbread, 51 Christmas trees, and 75 traditional wreaths.
Melania shared that, for her, the phrase “home is where the heart is” hits home—especially amid the joys and challenges of motherhood and her various undertakings. She reflected, perhaps quite deeply, that home transcends a physical location; rather, it’s about the comfort and warmth one carries within, regardless of where they might be.
Traditionally, visitors would start their tour of the White House’s holiday decorations in the East Wing. However, that space has been transformed into a $300 million luxury ballroom, a project President Trump pursued for over ten years.
This change means the tour now takes a new route, showcasing holiday decor throughout the State Capitol. Iconic rooms each feature unique subthemes; for instance, the East Room honors the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with patriotic red, white, and blue decorations, complete with an eagle and 250 stars, under the subtheme “Where the Heart Is: America, Our Home.”
In the Green Room, visitors will find displays celebrating beloved American games and Lego portraits of both the president and George Washington, themed “Home is Where the Heart Is: Family Fun.”
The Blue Room, home to the official Christmas tree, pays tribute to Gold Star families with blue, gold, and ivory decorations, encapsulating the subtheme “Home is Where the Heart Is: Where Strength and Sacrifice Meet.”
Meanwhile, the Red Room reflects the first lady’s “Be Best” initiative, showcasing over 10,000 butterflies and themed around “Nurturing the Future.”
In the stateroom, her decorations, which feature official White House Historical Society ornaments, golden acorns, and hand-painted magnolias, highlight the White House’s diplomatic heritage with the sub-theme “Home is where the heart is – a place to gather.”
Lastly, the Grand Foyer and Cross Hall have been beautifully decorated under the theme “Where Love Blooms.” This marks Melania Trump’s fifth time bringing the festive spirit to the executive mansion, showcasing her experience as a White House decorator.
