Delay in Jordyn Tyson’s Rookie Debut
It looks like Jordyn Tyson’s first game might be postponed.
The Saints will need to manage without their first-round wide receiver after he hurt his right hamstring during a joint practice with the Jaguars on Thursday.
Head coach Kellen Moore provided confirmation on Friday, stating Tyson would be sidelined, but he didn’t specify when Tyson might return.
Tyson, who is 22 years old, was drafted eighth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. This selection makes him the second receiver taken by the Titans in the first round, following Carnell Tate, who was picked fourth.
When asked about the possibility of this injury impacting Tyson’s status for the regular season, Moore admitted that it certainly could.
“We’re just going to let the experts assess the situation and then come up with a plan,” Moore mentioned to reporters. “I don’t want to make any hasty conclusions. I don’t have a medical degree, so rushing to a timeline seems unwise.”
Tyson’s injury occurred on Thursday when he landed awkwardly after making a catch during the joint practice.
He exited the field prematurely and didn’t return to the session.
“I don’t think my perspective on players being in situations where they can slip or get hit from behind is relevant to Jordyn’s history,” Moore said. “Typically, players in those scenarios might end up with similar diagnoses.”
Tyson had already faced hamstring problems in his last year at Arizona State, limiting him to just nine appearances during his redshirt junior year, where he recorded 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns.
This was a contrast to his breakout season, where he accrued 1,101 yards on 75 catches and found the end zone ten times.
Additionally, he experienced a broken collarbone late in the 2024 season, which forced him to miss the last two games, including the Big 12 Championship and the Peach Bowl.
