Justin Lindsay Leaves Carolina Panthers Team
Justin Lindsay, known as the NFL’s first transgender cheerleader for the Carolina Panthers, recently shared her reasons for departing from the organization. After being part of the Carolina Top Cats since 2022, she decided to leave the team in August.
Lindsay expressed that her departure was related to her transgender identity. During a livestream interview, she stated, “I was fired because I’m transgender. I don’t want to hear anyone say, ‘She didn’t want to come back.’ Why on earth would I not want to go back to the organization I’ve been a part of for three years?”
While she holds no resentment towards the Panthers, Lindsay feels they haven’t considered the broader implications of her situation. “I appreciate everything they’ve done for me, but I feel like I was wronged,” she remarked.
Reflecting on her experience, Lindsay described it as a “big slap in the face,” emphasizing that it impacted not just her but also others involved. This incident came on the heels of significant political changes during Trump’s administration, including new regulations affecting transgender athletes in schools.
As the discussion continues, responses from the Panthers have not yet been made available. Lindsay’s situation highlights ongoing challenges faced by transgender individuals in sports, as policies evolve and adapt to current legal and cultural climates.
