Fisker recalling 7,500 SUVs in US, citing issue with water pump

More than 7,500 Fisker Ocean SUVs subject to U.S. recall

Electric vehicle (EV) maker Fisker said in a recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the cabin electric water pump in 7,545 2023-2024 Ocean SUVs sold in the United States may experience a “communications failure,” which could lead to a sudden loss of driving power.

The NHTSA recall said a “communications failure” with the pump could cause the “high-voltage battery management system” to activate a mode “designed to limit battery power to 8.5 kW,” potentially resulting in a loss of traction at speeds between 10 and 20 mph.

“The recall is voluntary., “Fisker is fully cooperating with NHTSA on this matter,” a Fisker spokesperson told FOX Business on Tuesday.

A spokesman said 420 vehicles in Canada and 3,343 Ocean SUVs of the same model year in Europe are also being recalled for the same water pump issue, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to 11,308.

The issue could increase the risk of a crash, according to NHTSA, but so far it has not led to any crashes, and no injuries have been reported as a result of the issue, according to the recall report.

Affected Fisker customers will be notified by August 25th.

The fix for this issue will be free of charge, and according to the NHTSA report, will involve installing a new and improved cabin electric water pump in affected vehicles.
