Wes Watson Pleads Guilty to Aggravated Assault
Fitness influencer Wes Watson admitted guilt to aggravated assault on Thursday, linked to an incident at a gym in Miami-Dade County. This plea helps wrap up the case ahead of his sentencing, which is set for July 17th.
The 42-year-old Watson entered his plea in Miami-Dade County Court as part of a deal with the prosecution. They are suggesting he serve 21 months in prison, including time already served, followed by seven years of probation and mandatory mental health treatment.
Watson, who gained popularity online as a motivational figure and fitness enthusiast after his release from prison, faced charges stemming from a confrontation that occurred on December 29, 2024, at Elevation Fitness.
He has millions of followers on social media, where he shares content focused on fitness, discipline, and life after incarceration.
An arrest affidavit indicates that during the incident, Watson was lifting weights when the victim approached him and declared, “I want to fight.” According to investigators, surveillance footage captured Watson hitting the man with a weightlifting belt in the aftermath.
At the hearing, Watson’s attorney, Eric Kleiman, contended that the situation was unique, asserting that the victim had intentionally sought out Watson due to his online fame. “The fact is, we have an alleged victim who actively pursued someone because of their public persona,” he said. The lawyer noted that the individual traveled from New Jersey to confront Watson.
Watson also has several pending felony cases in nearby Broward County, which include charges of assault, aggravated assault, witness tampering, and issues related to a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend. These charges are still open.
As of now, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office did not provide any immediate responses for further information.
