Police and family members have reported that a well-known fitness influencer and her date were shot by a jealous estranged husband.
Gloria Zamora, a mother of seven, who had over 150,000 followers on Instagram, was killed late Saturday night in the parking lot of a sushi restaurant in Fontana.
The shooter was identified as her second husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayori Lizaraga, just days after the 40-year-old influencer mentioned on her podcast, Helizon, that she had separated from him.
“They were in the process of getting a divorce, which seemingly led to this tragic event,” said Officer Steve Reed of the Fontana Police Department. He also indicated to ABC 7 that it was a double murder.
Reed expressed confusion over how Lizaraga knew where Zamora was, noting that she had been at the restaurant roughly an hour prior to the shooting.
Reed mentioned that several law enforcement officials were present when the shooting occurred. The deputy involved “made a U-turn at the light, exited his vehicle, and confronted the suspect,” he added.
Lizaraga was subsequently shot and killed by a lieutenant, whose identity has not been disclosed.
According to an online fundraiser, Zamora is survived by “seven beautiful children aged 8 to 24,” who now face life without their mother’s warmth and guidance.
“My mother was taken from us without cause. She was killed by my stepfather, Thomas, in an unimaginable act of violence,” her daughter Jazzlyn Zamora wrote.
Jazzlyn characterized her mother as “the light of her community,” noting that she had inspired many women over the years.
“She always said, ‘Women can achieve anything,’ and she truly lived up to those words daily,” she added.
The children of Hector Garduno also initiated a GoFundMe campaign, describing their father as a “dedicated and hardworking man” who was tragically murdered.
The Fontana police confirmed that an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
