A group of gunmen opened fire in a busy bar, targeting five Venezuelan immigrants believed to be associated with Tren DeLagua’s gang. The attack resulted in the deaths of two TDA members, while three others sustained injuries.
The incident took place on Monday night at Foro at Santa Maria Bar in the Cuauhtemoc Autonomous Region of Mexico City. An armed assailant entered the bar and discharged over twenty shots at a table occupied by the five victims. Following the gunfire, the shooter fled the scene. The victims consisted of three men and two women. By the time emergency responders arrived, two of the men had succumbed to their injuries.
Local journalist Carlos Zimenez reported that the five affected individuals were affiliated with TDA and indicated that the Venezuelan gang had ties with the local Cartel La Union de Tepito. It is suspected that the attack was orchestrated by rival gangs opposing the union. The criminal group has been involved in conflicts with La Union de Tepito over control of drug distribution territories and extortion rackets.
According to reports, La Unión de Tepito is the leading criminal entity in Mexico City and has formed various partnerships with drug cartels in the past. The organization has connections with the Sinaloa Cartel and, more recently, the Cartel Jalisco New Generation. A significant proportion of violent crime in Mexico City is attributed to territorial disputes involving La Union or its competitors.
