Dashcam footage from Gwinnett County police reveals a tragic three-vehicle crash that occurred on May 23. In the incident, a 7-year-old boy was thrown from a truck straight into a police cruiser. Officer Ariana James, who saw the accident happen, quickly rushed to assist the boy. He was understandably anxious about being left behind by his father, and she worked to comfort him. In a separate incident, a 17-year-old’s five friends lost their lives when their car careened off a steep cliff in Colorado. This collision transpired just as the new school year was beginning, leaving families and the community in deep mourning.

The five boys, all hailing from Grand Junction, were reportedly traveling on Lookout Lane late Saturday night when their vehicle veered off the road. According to authorities, three of the teens—both the driver and the front passenger—were wearing seatbelts. Sadly, the other two were not, leading to their ejection from the vehicle, as noted by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

All five boys succumbed to the injuries they sustained in this accident. Emergency services were notified around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday through a 911 call suggesting the vehicle had gone over the cliff’s edge.

Upon arrival, police and firefighters found the vehicle severely damaged at the bottom of a hillside. Investigators are looking into whether speeding played a role in the crash. So far, the identity of the driver hasn’t been disclosed, nor has the exact cause behind the vehicle leaving the roadway.

The coroner’s office stated that it follows a policy of not publicly naming minors, but many families and community members are sharing heartfelt memories of the teens lost in this tragedy.

One of the victims, Braden Taylor, was confirmed deceased by his grandfather, Calvin Wilken, via an emotional Facebook post. Wilken shared that Braden was a passenger in the vehicle with his four friends when it rolled over on a steep incline overlooking the railroad tracks and the Gunnison River. They were, tragically, all lost.

Wilken mentioned that the accident took place not far from where their family used to live, making the news all the more poignant. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Braden’s parents, highlighting the unexpected financial burden of funeral expenses alongside their grief.

The community response has been overwhelming as they come together during this painful time, especially with students heading back to school. A local business, Modern Classic Motors, shared a fundraising link for the families, noting the profound effect this loss has had on the community.

Identified by loved ones, the other boys who died were Tristan Tucker, Titus Gould, William Sims, and Tyler Martinez. Tucker had been looking forward to starting his senior year of high school and getting his driver’s license, remembered fondly as a vibrant and spirited individual.

A meal train was organized to support Gould’s family during this time of mourning, and Martinez’s grandmother publicly expressed her sorrow following the loss of her grandson.

Another family member referred to the situation as “devastating” and urged the community to keep all five families in their thoughts and prayers. Grand Junction Police shared their condolences, expressing shared grief with the affected families.

“Our hearts are heavy following this weekend’s tragic loss,” the department stated. “You are our neighbors, our friends, and our family.” They emphasized the importance of community support in times like these.
