Tragic Shooting in York County
Authorities have reported that three police officers were killed and two others injured in a shooting incident in York County, Pennsylvania. This occurred while officers were conducting a follow-up related to a domestic issue, as noted by Pennsylvania Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris.
The assailant, identified as 24-year-old Matthew James Ruth, was shot dead by law enforcement during the incident.
Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences via social media, stating that two of the injured officers were in serious but stable condition and receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Pennsylvania State Police, are on the scene to assist local authorities.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the violence against police officers, commenting on the unfortunate state of society and expressing her support in a social media post.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed their presence on the ground, providing help to local and state partners after the tragic event. He extended prayers for the officers, their families, and the York County community.
Pennsylvania Lt. Col. Austin Davis shared similar sentiments, noting the larger impact of the tragedy not only on York County but on the entire state. He reflected on the bravery of officers who run towards danger to protect their communities.
This shooting comes just months after a previous incident in February, where a York County officer died in the line of duty during a standoff involving hostages.
