There are reports emerging that the person who opened fire at Fort Stewart was a soldier. A press conference is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET to address the situation.

Multiple injuries were reported at Fort Stewart, Georgia, which was placed on lockdown following reports of an active shooter on the premises. Specific details are still unclear, but a spokesperson from the Stewart Police Station, Lt. Col. Angel Tomco, confirmed the active shooter situation.

The official Facebook page for Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield stated: “A casualty has been reported and the situation is ongoing.”

“The installation was locked down at 11:04 AM and law enforcement was present during the event,” according to the post.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his sorrow about the event, stating, “We are saddened by today’s tragedy at Stewart, and we remain in close contact with law enforcement agencies on the ground.”

Reports from Newsweek indicate that there could be at least one active shooter in the second Armored Brigade Combat Team area, with some traffic suggesting the possibility of a second shooter or an additional event.

Fort Stewart is home to the 3rd Infantry Division and houses over 10,000 soldiers along with their families and civilian employees.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi tweeted that federal law enforcement in Georgia is collaborating to provide assistance as the situation unfolds. “I pray for all the victims and the soldiers on the base,” she added.
