Scott Township, Pennsylvania (WBRE/Waioh) — Five women believed to be from the same family were struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in northeastern Pennsylvania Tuesday night, authorities said.
Pennsylvania State Police said in a press release Wednesday that the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Scott Township on Interstate 81 when a minivan carrying four women lost control and swerved in the middle. It was announced that the vehicle had collided with the belt.
Immediately after the accident, two more relatives in a second vehicle parked on the right shoulder and crossed two lanes of traffic to help those in the minivan.
A short time later, a trailer collided with the driver's side of the minivan, authorities said. Two people in the minivan were killed in the crash. Three other people who were standing in the left lane at the time of the accident were also pronounced dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old driver of the second car, who was also standing on the road, was injured, and the truck driver also sustained minor injuries.
Police identified the deceased victims as Herbalist Zebari (42 years old), Fatma Ahmed (71 years old), Shazinaz Missouri (56 years old), Aline Ameen (19 years old), and Beliban Zebara (43 years old). (years old). All five people lived in New York, Nexstar said. WIVT.
