Women Taking Action Against Crime in 2025
Women have always stood up against crime, and the year 2025 saw no exception.
In one incident, a woman shopping at a store used her Second Amendment rights to confront a man who allegedly molested another customer and even threatened her with a gun. In another case, a mother hid in a closet with her baby when an intruder broke into her home. She took decisive action that left him ineffective. And then there’s the heartwarming story of a woman who thwarted a scammer, shocking her husband in the process.
Here’s a look at five notable moments in 2025 when women bravely faced criminals.
1. The Gas Station Confrontation
Surveillance footage from a gas station in Hollywood captured the moment Starr Carter pulled a male intruder from her car and threw him to the ground. On November 4, while sitting in her Alfa Romeo, an unknown man tried to get into the passenger side. Her husband, Michael, was pumping gas at the time and thought he merely needed to ask the man to move along.
However, the situation escalated when the intruder climbed into the back seat. Michael recalled wrestling with him, only to find his wife coming to the rescue. “I was watching from behind and I said, ‘Ah… ah!'”, he recounted, still amazed.
With remarkable strength, Starr got out of the driver’s seat, pulled the intruder out, and tossed him to the ground. “I don’t condone violence, but I do condone self-defense,” Starr said afterward. As the intruder fled, she warned him, “Don’t ever do anything stupid like this again!” The couple later enjoyed their evening at a comedy show, and Michael humorously referred to Starr as his hero.
2. The Shopkeeper’s Defense
On October 19, a violent incident erupted in a Compton beauty supply store when a 42-year-old man allegedly molested a customer. He refused to leave, assaulted employees, and started throwing items around while threatening everyone present. One customer, not the original victim, pulled out a gun in response.
The situation escalated when the man aimed a knife at customers, prompting the woman to fire a warning shot. Feeling threatened, she shot him again, hitting him fatally. Investigators later noted that the man had a long criminal history, including assault and robbery. The woman involved cooperated with authorities, and no charges were filed against her.
3. The Brave Mother
A Joliet mother faced a terrifying moment on August 15 when a man with a criminal past broke into her home. She hid in a closet with her baby and, as the intruder entered the bedroom, he ended up fatally shooting himself in a confrontation that left him unresponsive when police arrived.
The man, identified as 36-year-old Shelby Heard, had a long history of robbery and identity theft. The police found he was carrying a screwdriver and was dressed in gloves at the time. Tragically, this intruder chose to break into the wrong home.
4. The Stalker’s Attack
In Pensacola on February 10, a stalker arrived at a woman’s workplace and began to assault her. But she was ready. Pulling out a legally owned gun, she shot him in the leg as self-defense. The man, Marquis James, was later arrested and faced numerous charges, including stalking and assault. Police noted that she had justified her actions given the prolonged harassment she endured.
5. The Victim’s Vengeance
In a harrowing tale, a woman confronted a man in her Indianapolis home on September 16, who had assaulted her at gunpoint and even recorded the act. After the assault, she managed to grab her own gun and shot him as he tried to flee. He was later found and arrested, facing serious charges.
These stories from 2025 showcase incredible courage, resilience, and the willingness of women to take matters into their own hands when faced with danger.
