Abdullah Janan Saik, spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry of Natural Disaster Management, reported on Sunday that flash floods have affected many areas across the country, including the capital Kabul.

Officials said about 200 animals were killed and 600 homes were damaged or completely demolished, with most of the casualties caused by roof collapses.

Flooding also damaged more than 53 miles of highways and about 800 hectares of farmland, Saik said.

He went on to list the western provinces of Farah, Herat, Zabul, and Kandahar in the south as the most severely affected provinces.

“Since Friday, rain has caused flash floods, causing huge human and economic losses,” Saik said on Sunday. “According to primary information, unfortunately, 33 people were martyred and 27 people were injured due to the flood.”

More rain is expected in most of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces in the coming days, the Meteorological Department said.
