FLASHBACK: See how Kamala Harris answered when she was confronted in 2020 as ‘the most liberal senator’

Then-vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris laughed when grilled by CBS News in 2020 about being the “most liberal” U.S. senator at the time.

During the Oct. 25, 2020 episode of CBS’ “60 Minutes,” CBS News anchor Norah O’Donnell addressed the California Democratic senator’s liberal voting record, noting that she was so progressive that she and then-presidential candidate Joe Biden clashed on some issues.

“You’re considered the most liberal senator in the United States.” O’Donnell told Harris:.

“Someone said that, but it was actually Mike Pence on the debate stage,” Harris said with a laugh.

But O’Donnell refused to dismiss the accusation as a conservative smear, instead firing back, “In fact, the nonpartisan GovTrack rates you as the most liberal senator.”

Castor listed issues on which Harris showed liberal leanings, as compiled in a U.S. Congressional database. translationThe self-described “Government Transparency Website” rated Harris as “the most liberal of all senators” in 2019, ahead of then-Senators Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.).

“You’ve supported the Green New Deal, you’ve supported Medicare for Universal, you’ve supported the legalization of marijuana,” O’Donnell added, noting that “Joe Biden doesn’t support any of those things.”

She then asked whether Harris would bring her liberal policy views to the White House.

Harris responded: “What I’m going to do, I promise you. This is what Joe wants from me and it’s part of our deal. I’m always going to share my lived experience with him on any issue that we face. And I’ve promised Joe that I’m going to give him that perspective and always be honest with him.”

The anchor asked if that was a “socialist or progressive point of view,” to which Harris laughed and said, “No.”

Since Harris became a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024, her opponents have sought to remind voters of her liberal record. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign recently told Fox News Digital that Harris is “dangerously liberal.”

While the Trump campaign has continued to focus on Harris’ liberal record, it has not focused on the same website that O’Donnell cited in his interview with Harris four years ago.

Earlier this week, GovTrack confirmed to Fox News Digital that within the past two weeks it had removed a 2019 webpage that ranked Kamala Harris as the “most liberal” U.S. senator that year.

The webpage that featured the rankings was recently deactivated, with links now displaying the message “Page not found.” The page was removed sometime between July 10 and July 23, according to the Internet Archive.

Biden dropped out of the presidential race on July 21 to endorse Harris, who has since quickly solidified her party’s support and become a leading contender for the 2024 presidential election.

GovTrack founder Joshua Tauberer told Fox News Digital that the page was removed because the company moved away from rating lawmakers on a single year basis “several years ago” in favor of only rating them based on two-year legislative sessions.
