Incident at Fort Myers Gas Station Raises Alarm
Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer has stated that the tragic murder of a woman at a Fort Myers gas station on April 3 was entirely avoidable. He highlighted the suspect’s status as a Haitian national who, under former President Joe Biden’s open borders approach, was residing illegally in the United States.
“This horrific murder could have been prevented. Despite Florida’s efforts to arrest numerous criminal aliens daily, Biden’s open border policy continues to disrupt our communities,” Usmeyer wrote on social media.
He expressed strong disapproval towards congressional members advocating for clemency, arguing it diminishes the dignity of American victims harmed by individuals with no legal right to be in the country.
Usmeyer shared information from the Department of Homeland Security confirming that the man accused of the attack, Rolbert Huachin, is indeed an undocumented immigrant. The incident involved Huachin allegedly smashing the victim’s windshield and repeatedly striking her with a hammer, as captured by surveillance footage. Reports indicate the victim was a gas station employee.
The Fort Myers Police Department collaborated with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to apprehend Huachin. According to DHS, he had unlawfully entered the United States in August 2022 and was allowed to remain in the country by the Biden administration.
Although a federal judge had ordered his removal that same year, the Biden administration granted him Temporary Protected Status, which is set to expire in 2024, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Biss emphasized the gravity of the situation, asserting that the suspect should never have been in the U.S. “This illegal alien savagely attacked this woman with a hammer, and was allowed to stay here by the Biden administration,” she remarked.
Biss further criticized the administration’s immigration policies, stating, “Their reckless decisions led to her death. The swift apprehension of this criminal exemplifies how ICE and local agencies can effectively collaborate to enhance community safety.”
