Florida basketball coach Todd Golden signs a $40 million deal

Todd Golden, the head coach for Florida’s men’s basketball team, is committed to Gainesville for the long haul.

Following their recent national championship win, Golden will sign a lucrative six-year extension worth $40 million, which will secure his position with the Gators until the end of the 2030-31 season, as announced by the team on Tuesday.

“My family and I are proud members of Gator Nation and are truly thankful for the chance to lead this exceptional program since three years ago,” Golden mentioned. “As demonstrated throughout our time in Gainesville, the University of Florida possesses the resources, backing, and people necessary to compete for national titles.”

“We’re appreciative of all the players and staff who have been central to our success here. My family and I look forward to a bright future at UF and the ongoing achievements of our men’s basketball team,” he continued.

Under Golden’s leadership, the Gators have an impressive record of 36-4 this season, claiming their third national title in school history—the first since 2007.

Golden has held the head coach position for three seasons, coming over from San Francisco after the 2022 season.

In his second season, the Gators reached the NCAA tournament but ended up bowing out in the 64th round.

Prior to Golden’s arrival, the Gators had missed the tournament twice in three years, achieving only one second-round appearance.

“Todd has done an extraordinary job restoring Florida men’s basketball to its rightful place,” stated Florida’s athletic director, Scott Stricklin. “We believe in his vision and modern competitive approach. This belief has quickly been validated, creating memorable experiences for a new generation of Gator fans.”

This new contract comes on the heels of Golden’s exemption from a four-month Title IX investigation that examined serious allegations like sexual exploitation and harassment.

“The University of Florida takes these matters seriously and is committed to ensuring due process,” says university spokesperson Steve Orlando. “After a comprehensive investigation, which included many interviews over several months, we found no evidence that Todd Golden breached Title IX,” he added.

“The Title IX Office has concluded its investigation.”
