Florida brush fire closes 18-Mile Stretch of US1 for third straight day, temporarily severing link to Keys

Authorities had warned local residents that smoke could drift through the neighborhood, leading to air quality issues.

“It's spring break for many people around the country too,” said Craig Herrera, a weather meteorologist at Fox. “And a lot of people go to this part of the country for spring break. So, whether you live there or visit, I know this is a concern (Thursday).”

The 18-mile stretch closed in under an hour on Wednesday, but faced a few hours of closure on Tuesday. Officials have no estimates if roads are expected to reopen on Thursday.

Tandem will be effective in several counties along Florida's east coast and in several counties from the Daytona Beach area to Miami along Interstate 95.

The Fox Forecast Center said on Wednesday the cold front, linked to a blizzard in the plains and a strong storm that caused bad weather to the Midwest and the Great Lakes, was seen with strong winds and low relative humidity before that.

And due to lack of precipitation and the sunshine conditions experiencing drought conditions, it can spread quickly if sparks ignite.
