First appearance on FOXRep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), who represents Florida’s 6th congressional district, will be releasing a new book this fall called “Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret.”
The book is scheduled to be published by St. Martin’s Press on October 22, 2024.
Waltz, a retired colonel, is the first Green Beret elected to Congress.

“The Green Berets are the elite in the world of special operations forces,” Waltz said in emailed comments to Fox News Digital this week.
“In Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret, we share the mindset needed to succeed in combat, business and Congress.”

He said readers will encounter “the hard lessons I learned as I fought the Taliban in Afghanistan, completed Special Forces training, made my way to Congress and ultimately overcame the challenges America faces today.”
Former President Donald Trump said of Waltz, “When I want to know about the military, he’s the guy I call.”
Walz will be a key Republican voice on defense and foreign policy issues during the 2024 national election cycle.

During his active duty, Waltz served multiple deployments in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa.
In Afghanistan, he led a team searching for deserter Private Bowe Bergdahl.
In his new book, Waltz recounts one of many dramatic moments from his service: In the mountains of Afghanistan, one of his snipers watched through his scope as a young boy acting as spotter for a Taliban mortar bomb attacking a Green Beret position.

The shooter asked for permission to fire, but Waltz refused, insisting on restraint.
The child was saved and his position was maintained, Waltz wrote in the book.

Later that same day, Waltz visited a nearby Afghan village and learned that the Taliban had hanged a boy in front of his family. Why? Because the boy was not willing to fight for them.
Waltz said the book’s message is driven by his own difficult experiences in war and the tough life-and-death decisions he faced on the battlefield.

In this book, he writes, “The mindset honed in the military is a fundamental component of In business and in life “overcoming daily challenges,” according to materials shared with Fox News Digital.

Waltz also said that Green Beret doctrine “teaches conflict resolution and emphasizes the importance of discipline and self-control. Determination, tenacity and bold leadership are all key elements of the book.”

Waltz, a former White House counterterrorism policy adviser, is also the author of “Warrior Diplomat: The Green Berets’ Battle from Washington to Afghanistan.”
He graduated with honors from the Virginia Military Academy and served in the U.S. Army and National Guard for 27 years, retiring during his second term as a member of Congress.
