An argument between a Florida couple over political differences turned violent, authorities said Wednesday.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was called to a North Fort Myers home after a 70-year-old man allegedly grabbed his fiancee by the neck and put pressure on her, according to an affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.
Investigators said the woman was a “Democrat” and asked for help.
“She (and her fiancé) fought throughout the day and argued over politics because John was a Republican,” the affidavit states. “During her verbal altercation, (he) started calling her a Democrat and things like that.”

“I couldn’t breathe,” the woman told investigators. According to authorities, the deputy observed red marks on the woman’s neck, which matched the woman’s statement.
The man told investigators the couple, who have been engaged for 25 years, had argued over politics, but denied attacking her. This is the second time in the past 10 days that a man has been arrested in connection with this incident.
