Florida drive-in restaurant featured in new Brad Pitt film goes up in flames

A central Florida drive-in restaurant that was to be featured in an upcoming Brad Pitt movie was destroyed in an overnight fire.

The New Smyrna Beach Fire Department confirmed on Facebook that it was responding to a structure fire at Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant, 1103 North Dixie Freeway, at 1 a.m. Monday.

Just before 6 a.m., a FOX 35 Orlando reporter told the X that crews told him a fire broke out in the attic around midnight and the structure was completely destroyed.

“It’s a neighborhood staple. In the New Smyrna Beach area, everyone knows Papa’s Drive-In Restaurant. It’s a common place where everyone gathers and hangs out.” Beach Fire Department Lt. Adam Sawy said. he told FOX 35. “There’s a lot of history. It’s one of the oldest drive-in restaurants around here…and they just shot a movie here a few weeks ago, a few months ago, so there’s a lot of history here, so it’s… It’s going to be great.” Many hearts were broken by missing out on neighborhood staples. ”

Papas’ website says it’s open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., adding that it serves “famous burgers and Friend chicken since 1970.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other buildings were damaged.
