Florida GOP’s “Deport Depot” Merchandise Withdrawn Over Logo Concerns
The Florida Republican Party recently had to withdraw its “Deport Depot” merchandise after retail giant Home Depot raised concerns about similarities to its logo.
Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced plans for a second illegal immigration detention facility in Sunshine, complementing the existing Alligator Alcatraz site. This new center will be situated in an unused area of the Baker Correctional Facility in northern Florida. DeSantis claimed this move would save millions, emphasizing the advantage of the existing infrastructure.
He expressed confidence that the newly established center could house over 1,300 illegal immigrants. “I believe there is unused capacity beyond what we currently manage in South Florida,” DeSantis stated.
In response to the announcement, the Florida GOP quickly rolled out a range of “Wannial Catraz” products, including T-shirts and hats. However, these items reportedly bore a striking resemblance to Home Depot’s well-known branding, particularly its orange logo, which led to a swift backlash.
Home Depot voiced its opposition to the use of its branding. “We do not permit any organizations to exploit our brand or logo for commercial purposes. We did not authorize this usage,” a representative reportedly said.
As a result, these products have since been removed from sale. Nevertheless, the establishment of the new facility continues. DeSantis clarified that the intention is not to detain individuals indefinitely, but rather to expedite their return to their countries of origin.
“That’s the objective, and this is how we operate in Florida. I recognize this is a significant priority for Americans, not just for President Trump,” he added.
DeSantis assured that the process wouldn’t drag on forever, highlighting the commitment to get the job done efficiently. “We want to handle this with urgency, and I’m proud of our team’s efforts. Florida is making strides. This issue matters to people across our nation,” he emphasized. He also mentioned the importance of preventing further tragedies related to immigration policy.
Kevin Guthrie, the executive director of emergency management for Florida, explained that the facility would be a permanent structure, allowing his team to operate smoothly and without delays.
