A Florida Panthers employee has reportedly been fired for leaking photos of the team's new center ice logo.
On Monday night, FLA Cats Hockey Podcast host David Rodriguez shared an image of the new rink design on X and asked, “Is this the real deal?”
Just an hour later, the franchise confirmed the change in a post of its own on X.
Someone in the building lost their job as a result of the incident.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida's Andy Slater reports. On Wednesday, the team announced that the person who took the photo Rodriguez posted had been fired.
According to the team, the new logo is a callback to the franchise's “shield logo.”
“This year, our shield returns to center ice,” the Panthers' X post read, “and for the first time in franchise history, the circle will be filled with the color red.”
It also inherited some Stanley Cup characteristics.
“The sun looks a little different in South Florida,” the post read. “The shield is positioned over a sunbeam, inspired by the embossed pattern on the Stanley Cup.”
The Panthers defeated the Oilers in seven games last season to take home the Stanley Cup, the first title in franchise history.
Florida nearly blew a 3-0 lead in Game 7 at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
