Florida pre-med student admits to stabbing his mother to death: ‘Inexplicable, vicious’

A University of Florida medical doctorate student is in custody after calling 911 Saturday afternoon and admitting to stabbing his mother to death, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

In a press conference Saturday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that on Saturday afternoon, just after 2 p.m., Emmanuel Espinoza, 21, a medical master’s degree student at the University of Florida, drove to his mother’s house. He said he confronted her and stabbed her mother to death. .

Sheriff Judd said Espinonza was driving from Gainesville to Frostproof for a family event with his grandparents when the altercation occurred. Espinzona asked her mother if she could stay with her, and her mother agreed.

“He knocked on the front door and when my mother opened the door, he started stabbing her, stabbing her multiple times. She ran away from him and was talking to her family on the phone, but on top of that… He stabbed his mother “until she collapsed and died,” Sheriff Judd explained.

Sheriff Judd went on to say that when Espinoza was asked why he did that, he admitted everything.

“He said, ‘I’ve wanted to kill my mother for years because it irritates my mother,'” Sheriff Judd said, when asked why Espinoza killed his mother. I explained my answer when I asked.

Espinoza told lawmakers he decided today was the day to act on his feelings.

“We asked him, ‘How’s your relationship with your mother?’ And he said it was an 8 out of 10 that he really loved her, but that she irritated him. And today, on his way from Gainesville, he decided to kill her and that’s exactly what he did,” Sheriff Judd said. He said.

Sheriff Judd added that Espinoza called 911 after the murder, confessed to the crime and is currently in custody. He is also cooperating with authorities, Sheriff Judd said.

Sheriff Judd called the murder “a truly horrific event.”

“Elvia Espinoza is a 46-year-old second grade teacher at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School in Frostproof and is much loved by the community. This is a very sad day after this unexplained and brutal murder. Her family, friends, students, and coworkers. We pray for the safety of the school and Polk County Public Schools,” Sheriff Judd said.

Espinoza was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.
