Florida property line dispute turns violent when woman hits neighbor with hammer, authorities say

A Florida woman is suspected of hitting her neighbor with a hammer during a dispute over a property line last week, authorities said.

In an arrest affidavit obtained by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Kelly Figueroa of Spring Hill, just north of Tampa Bay, said that on Dec. 29, shortly before the dispute, he was on his property in preparation for installing a fence. When deputies arrived, Figueroa, 58, said he had been involved in several incidents with a neighbor during an ongoing property line dispute. She was setting up a stake in her backyard when her neighbor came up to her and shoved it, she said.

The neighbor's son told authorities that Figueroa was the one who hit the neighbor with the hammer he was using to drive lawn stakes, according to the affidavit.

Authorities said the neighbor had swelling and chafing on his left wrist.

The altercation began when Figueroa was accused of driving a stake into a neighbor's property.

The affidavit said the neighbor's injuries “occurred while she was working in her yard and her claims are false.”

Figueroa was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and released on $5,000 bond.
