Florida teacher claims he faced backlash after taking down Charlie Kirk poster

In Florida, William Logans, a teacher at Horizon High School, spoke with FOX News Digital about feeling singled out after being instructed to take down posters of Charlie Kirk from his classroom. He expressed that while many other posters might also be seen as political or controversial, he believes he’s being targeted simply because Kirk holds conservative views.

Logans, who teaches integrated law honors and economics, has decorated his classroom with various inspirational figures, including Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Ronald Reagan. The poster of Kirk included a quote urging individuals not to underestimate the power of their voice.

The situation escalated when students raised concerns about the Kirk posters, prompting the Orange County School District to request their removal to avoid possible controversy. Logans maintained that the poster wasn’t intended as a political statement, and the school acknowledged this but insisted on its removal because of Kirk’s political stance.

Feeling wronged, Logans has sought legal counsel and filed a complaint claiming political discrimination, hoping to restore the posters. His attorney, Anthony Sabatini, has voiced support for him, criticizing the Orange County Board of Education for its actions.

The Orange County School District, however, declined to comment on the matter. The district has stated that its actions align with policies which were influenced by a memo from the Florida Board of Education following Kirk’s tragic assassination, indicating that personal views of educators could compromise the trust parents and students place in them.

Despite this, Sabatini countered that the district’s enforcement, particularly against Logans, seemed biased. The school district firmly denied any such bias.

A spokesperson from the district explained that the poster’s removal was part of an effort to maintain a neutral classroom environment that upholds school policies against political displays. Logans, on the other hand, has reiterated that the fight is not about him but about setting a precedent for his students. He emphasized the importance of teaching them to stand up for their beliefs.

Additionally, Logans has mentioned his desire to create a club at his school inspired by Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk led, which has seen a surge in interest following Kirk’s death during a speaking engagement.
