Florida Teacher Wins Lawsuit, Restores Charlie Kirk Poster

A teacher in Florida has successfully reinstated a Charlie Kirk poster in his classroom after a school district mandated its removal due to student complaints.

“This is a significant victory. But honestly, it’s not just about me. It’s for the students,” William Logans shared.

Logans explained, “Rather than being told what to display or which inspirational quotes to use, my students can now access a range of viewpoints and make their own choices. This really is a win for my students—and, I think, for students nationwide.” He teaches integrated law honors and economics at Horizon High School within the Orange County School District.

Previously, he emphasized to the school district that he wanted to model appropriate actions for his students.

Logans mentioned that he has filled his classroom with various inspirational posters featuring figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Ronald Reagan. The poster of Kirk displayed the quote: “Never underestimate the power of your voice and the impact you can have on the world when you say what you believe.”

After the lawsuit, Logans’ attorney, Anthony Sabatini, revealed on X that the principal of Horizon High School acknowledged defeat, sharing an email which stated: “Based on my review and your representations, your complaint has been acknowledged and the poster may be redisplayed.”

Logans pointed out that many students came to celebrate the outcome, highlighting its positive influence on them.

Following student complaints, the Orange County School District initially insisted on removing Kirk’s posters to mitigate potential backlash. Logans, however, asserted that the poster had no political motive and that the school recognized it wasn’t controversial but still requested its removal due to Kirk’s public image.

Sabatini, in supporting Logans, demanded adherence to legal standards from the school district. He criticized their vague justifications, insisting they implied restrictions on posters of political figures were unjustified.

“They claimed you couldn’t display posters of political figures or those who might seem to endorse specific views,” he said. “But in social studies classrooms, various depictions are common.”

Sabatini also noted that Kirk’s quote aligns with Logans’ lesson themes focused on aspiration and authenticity, and he believed the district realized they would struggle legally if they persisted.

Logans confirmed the establishment of a Turning Point USA chapter at Horizon High School, expressing excitement for its launch. “Our first meeting is coming up next week, and we’re expecting great participation,” he shared.
