Florida teacher will lose job after apparently indulging student’s gender delusion behind parent’s back

Florida teachers immediately quit their job after being said to have used a student’s “preferred” name without parental consent.

Melissa Calhoun is an English teacher at a satellite high school on a satellite beach near Cape Canaveral along the Atlantic coast. According to her LinkedIn Page, she has worked with Brevard Public Schools for nearly 12 years, seven of which have been at Satellite High.

However, her contract has not been renewed for the 2025-2026 academic year, where she allegedly violated state laws passed in 2023. The district noticed the situation after receiving complaints from the student’s parents.

“BPS supports the rights of parents to become key decision makers in their children’s lives.”

News reports stick to the fact that the law technically prohibits teachers from using common nicknames such as. John in place of Jonathan Without parental consent. However, Blaze News confirmed with BPS representatives that Calhoun uses names that do not correspond to the student’s biological sex.

Additionally, during the investigation into the name issue, Calhoun admitted that she “deliberately failed to comply with state laws,” said Janet Murnaghan, a spokesman for Brevard Public Schools. Florida today. The district then issued a prim guilty letter to her before deciding to oppose her renewal of her contract.

“The state will review her educational certificate based on these actions.” statement From Murunagan. “Like all employees, teachers are expected to follow the law.”

Calhoun is considered Florida’s first teacher and has lost his job in the law of a preferred name.

So far, radical advocacy groups in the area have gathered behind Calhoun. The ACLU in Florida claimed she was just “respectful,” while the Florida Equality Quindias said she was just creating a “positive” learning environment.

“This dedicated teacher has been fired for recognizing students in the same way as acknowledging family, friends and peers using nicknames, middle names or shortened names,” Diaz added.

However, if the statement from BPS was any indication, the decision to cease Calhoun’s employment was to respect the law passed by the rights of democratically elected officials and parents.

“BPS supports the parent’s right to be a key decision maker in the lives of a parent’s children, and Florida law affirms the right to be notified,” Murunagan said.

Neither Calhoun nor the Brevard Teachers Union responded to Florida’s request for comment today.
